Ewan Wilkinson and Sandy Brechin An amazing duo from Scotland who make a sound guaranteed to make you sit up and take notice – offering the sublime blend of Ewan’s powerful yet melodic vocals and guitar work with Sandy’s electrifying accordion, these two take Scottish folk music to high levels of excitement and entertainment! Arguably the best known of the duo, Sandy is widely regarded as one of Scotland’s finest accordion players, having extensively toured both in the UK and internationally with several groups including The Sandy Brechin Band and the superbly-named The Sensational Jimi Shandrix Experience! However, don’t be fooled into thinking that Ewan is there just to make up the numbers, for he too is widely regarded in his native Scotland as one of the finest young talents to emerge in the tradition for a long time, and together these two are a musical powerhouse. Well known further up the country, the duo venture “down south” only very occasionally, and their appearance at the Willows offers a unique chance to experience their amazing sound!

FLOSSIE MALAVIALLE
Wednesday 11th December : £5.00
Flossie Malavialle Our final guest of the year and who better to hold that honour than one of the club’s best friends! A singer whose fans include such luminaries as Allan Taylor, Colum Sands and Vin Garbutt, Flossie burst onto the folk scene several years ago and has gone on to become one of its most popular performers thanks to her stunning voice and charming, personable nature that leaves audiences eating out of her hand! Originally hailing from France, where she worked as an English teacher, Flossie came to the UK in 2000 where she swapped roles and began teaching French! Having always sung in her native France, Flossie began immersing herself in her local folk scene and such was her popularity that since that time she has released a number of albums, and appeared at literally dozens of clubs, theatres and festivals across the UK, including a tour opening for legendary folk rockers Fairport Convention! Flossie is highly respected by many of the folk scene’s biggest names, moving Allan Taylor to describe her as “inspiring” and state that “she even sings my songs better than me!” Stylistically, Flossie’s repertoire is comparable with that of Eva Cassidy, encompassing traditional and contemporary folk, lots of “old favourites”, hints of jazz and even the occasional song in French! Perhaps most notable for her awe-inspiring voice, able to veer from warm, gentle, emotive and soulful to gutsy and powerful, Flossie is also a great guitarist and is certain to serve up a truly magical performance when she returns to the Willows!
