Wednesday 27th July | Country rocks...but bluegrass rules!
Since the last news update we've had two great Wednesday nights - last week we had the enormous pleasure of welcoming our great friends WOOD WIRE & WORDS back to the club for a full evening! This band perform a lovely mixture of arresting bluegrass sounds coupled with thoughtful, self-penned songs, and they are a very entertaining and enjoyable live act. Their tight sound is doubtless helped by the fact that they are all related to each other, and they always give us a great evening of music!
Thanks to the band's appearance last Wednesday we have two new YouTube videos to present to you! This first video features David & Clare Rozzell showcasing their lovely harmonies with the a cappella bluegrass gospel song "When I'm Gone":
In this second video, the band perform their great and original take on Richard Thompson's classic song "1952 Vincent Black Lightning", proof that any good song can be successfully adapted for the bluegrass genre!
Thanks once again to Wood Wire & Words for a great evening!
The week before last, on Wednesday 13th July, we had another great Come All Ye - Open Stage Night with a host of great performers! Local artist and musician Andre Pallat was amongst the attendees, and he very kindly took some photos of the evening which we're pleased to share here. We think these photos capture very effectively the atmosphere of a Willows' Open Stage Night!

Sunday 10th July | A final farewell from a great trio!
We had a great night last Wednesday welcoming talented trio ISAMBARDE, currently embarking on their farewell tour! This great group appeared at the Willows for the first time last year and proved to be a huge hit and so it was good to be able to welcome them to the club's stage one more time. Isambarde's guitarist Chris Green joked that the band have played the Willows twice - "Once on the way up and once on the way back down!"
Everyone who came along to see them was treated to a spectacular feast of fine music, with the band's trademark fresh and innovative take on classic folk music, with lots of between-song banter and fun.

This second video showcases Isambarde's entertaining presentation, lovely vocals and skilled musicianship, as they perform the folk song "My Thing Is My Own":
On behalf of everyone at the Willows, the very best of luck to Emily, Chris & Jude from Isambarde for all their future projects! One thing's for certain, Isambarde will be a very hard act to follow!
